Many years back, my son fell down and hurt himself. He had a nasty wound on his knee. This was treated somewhat hastily and a scab grew over the wound. However, everything was not well. As days passed his pain increased and we had to visit a doctor who needed to remove the scab and clean the insides of the wound before treating it properly and closing it up again.
The Lord Jesus taught ""For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. "These are the things which defile the man;" Matthew 15:19,20
The prophet Jeremiah says the same thing differently. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9.
But then there is hope. God also promised ""Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." Ezekiel 36:26
This is not only applicable to Jews, but was opened out to all in the New Testament. In the book of Acts we find that God did not discriminate between Jews and Gentiles. "and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith." Acts15:9.
God on His part starts his process, but then, we need to cooperate with Him. The transformation becomes evident as we learn who is God and to see the world through His eyes, by studying the Bible regularly. When we put Biblical perspectives in place in the place of worldly values and perspectives, we begin to see the power of God manifesting in our lives, helping us to overcome that which could not be overcome previously.
