Steadfast love

In my youth I remember hearing a song that went like this
And I could easily fall from grace
Then another would take my place ...

The security of yesterday can be replaced by a desertion today fears the songwriter.

Another songwriter put it this way...

Everything must change, nothing stays the same
There are not many things in this life that you can be sure of
Except that rain comes from the clouds and sunlight from up above and Hummingbirds do fly.

Philosophers too have been quick to point out that we live in a changing world. Heraclitus of Ephesus once said “You cannot step into the same river twice”

In the light of this, to a large body of people fear is not far from their thoughts. There is apprehension about stocks and shares. There is apprehension about wars and politics. Not only that, terrorism, racism, violence, and the lack of love propel many to seriously wonder about the future of the race.

Into this scenario, God speaks "I the LORD do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed." Malachi 3:6.

A popular Hymn also presents this thought in the following words...

Change and decay in all around I see:
O thou who changest not, abide with me!

We have an unchanging God in a changing world. His steadfast love never ceases and His mercies never come to an end. Therefore to those who have sought refuge in Him, there is a strong hope that can endure any storm. We are secure because He is Faithful. We are not called to uncertainty but to security.
